Everyone of us have friends who supports and help us to achieve higher purpose. The closest friend of us are our soul and body. Our body is always our greatest ally. Our lung keep us oxygenated and our heart ensured our body filled with blood, our liver decompose toxic and remove them from our body. However, our greatest ally have their own enemy who tried everything to deteriorate them. For example, kidney stone is enemy of kidney. Heart attack is enemy of our heart and do you know who is the enemy of our brain? It is beta-amyloid.

Let me ask you something. Have you ever had an experience like you want to remember something, you tried to think. You tried very very hard but you still can’t think up that something. You know that something you want to remember is in your mind, you know that you didn’t forget it but what is that thing again? This situation occur mostly during the exam time. You know that you know the answer but somehow it just don’t pop up? Do you have any experience like that?

Take another example. Have you ever come across somebody you are familiar with but you forget his/her name. Maybe “forget” is not an appropriate term because you didn’t forget but it just doesn’t pop out. It is like you know a particular book is in the library. However, you just can’t find that particular book after you searched the whole library. It is in there but just don’t where it goes. Do you have an experience like this? Do you know why will this happen and who should you blame?

It is the beta-amyloid fault. If you are starting to feeling more and more forgetful, blame the beta-amyloid.

You may be curious, what is this beta-amyloid? What is its effect upon your brain?

Beta-amyloid is a type of protein that produced by our body. It is just like free radical. As long as your body undergo normal bio- mechanism, beta-amyloid will be produced. Right now, we will be focusing on how beta-amyloid destroy our brain cell and making you forgetful.

Below are a diagram of our brain cell. The diagram consist of the brain cells which are healthy. All of the brain cell are connected to each other. So as you can see, the flow of information is more efficient and faster. This is the condition when we learn extremely fast

Now let’s us look at the below diagram, it show that some of the beta-amyloid has blocked the connecting point of the brain cell. We call this point synapse. As four of the synapses blocked, information have to find another way to move from brain cell and brain cell. This is why you see the flow of information is less efficient now because they need to squeeze into another synapse.

It is just like a three lane road now blocked into one lane, all the cars have to squeeze through the one lane which make the whole traffic slower. It is same as this case.

As more beta-amyloid blocked the synapse, now you can see the information flowing through the brain cell like traffic jam. The flow is very slow because more information have to be transfer through one synapse.

As our age increase, the accumulation of beta-amyloid will also increased. This is why as we grow older, our learning capabilities decrease. The beta-amyloid will start deteriorating the receptor of the brain cell causing the brain cell to die. That is why you have the feeling like why can’t you remember something that you can remember. That is why you feel like you know something is in your mind but you can’t just remember it. One thing you need to remember is ONCE BRAIN CELL DIES, IT WILL NEVER BE REGENERATED AGAIN!!

How does dementia(Alzhemier’s disease) developed? Dementia is developed by accumulating high quantity of beta-amyloid your synapses. In other way, if the blockage of the synapse is too much, dementia will be developed.

Recently, there are study showing that even youngster started to be more and more forgetful. It is because people today’s lifestyle are aiding the production of beta-amyloid. Memory loss occurs on youngster isn’t that surprising now. In fact if a person wishes to increase his chance to dementia. All he have to do is to consume more of this bad food like:

MSG

Artificial Sweeteners (Splanda, Aspartame etc.)

Processed food (high preservative containing food i.e. bread, 라면 etc.)

Fast food

Sounds familiar? In fact, we are consuming these almost everyday. How can we not forgetful since we are aiding the accumulation of beta-amyloid more efficient than ever? NOBODY IS EVER FREE FROM DEMENTIA.
